Just a little sneak preview: I will be watching Bobby Moynihan’s debut on SNL on September 13 and will be writing about my reaction. I’m not sure how I will see it yet because I don’t have cable. In New York when you don’t have cable, you don’t have television. I guess you could be hooked up to an antennae somehow, but I’m not. So maybe it’s just me.
I heard yesterday that Michael Phelps will be hosting. I would like to be on Saturday Night Live some day, so I plan to start swimming. Imagine if you were a brilliant performer, but you took the route of becoming an Olympic swimmer so you get on television. Then you can reveal your true talents, and a career is born!
It’s a smart business choice to have Phelps host, but not a smart creative choice. But I guess people will think it’s funny just seeing him do something other than swim. Plus he is a National Hero, so whatever he does will be considered great right now. So I get it, but I would have rather seen, oh, I don’t know, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Seth Rogen (Has he ever hosted? Yes, he did. I just looked it up.), Ricky Gervais, Steve Carell, Tom X. Chao, the list could go on. I’ve never seen any of the previous shows these people have hosted, so it would be fresh news to me. But instead, since I am making a point to see this show, I will have to deal with Michael Phelps.
