Goals for 2009

Happy New Year, everyone! I posted this up on Facebook on January 1, but I wanted to share it with all of you. By the way, if you are on Facebook, please join my fan page! Just look up “Kurt Fitzpatrick” in the actor pages and join. Thanks!

I’ve decided to set some goals for myself for 2009. I’ve had mixed experiences with goals. The best thing, I think, is to set goals that are attainable, especially with knowing HOW to attain them. So I could set a goal and say, “I’m going to star in a network show this year,” but how am I going to do that?? Sure, it’s possible, but I’m not sure I know where to start. I want goals that I have some control over, and are challenging, but can be achieved by DOING THE WORK.

I’m putting this out there for any of you to see, so you can follow along with me. If I am the only one who knows my goals, it’s less fun for me. And, yes, Lori, I will be doing the writing book exercises this year, but I’m not including that here.

I have three goals.

1. Do 75 shows this year. This means 75 performances. This could be a combination of many different things: solo show performances, plays, cabaret, improv. Open mike nights count, as long as there is an audience. The only real restriction is that a karaoke performance doesn’t count. I don’t do much of those anyway, but that’s my rule.

2. Go to the gym 100 times this year. Meaning once a day for 100 days throughout 2009. Home gyms don’t count, but hotel gyms do. If I go to the gym every day for the first 100 days of 2009 could I not go for the rest of year and achieve this goal? Yes. But I don’t think it will go like that.

3. Read Akira Kurosawa’s “Something Like an Autobiography.” That book has been sitting on my shelf for years and people tell me how good it is. This year that book is getting read.
